Internext Expo Overview
It’s coming up on that time of year again so today’s article will be covering the goings on at this year’s Internext Expo being held Jan 15-17 2007 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
WARM UP
While the show doesn’t start until the 15th the parties start before that. Any early arriving webmasters should have no trouble finding something fun to get into in. Topbucks, Plugin Feeds and Yappo Dollars will be holding an exotic martini party on from 7-10pm on the 14th. Pussy Cash, Reality Cash and CE Cash will be holding the GFY warm up party on the 14th from 9pm until whenever you pass out. Both Topbucks and GFY are known for throwing first class get-togethers so if you get into town early be sure to hit up one or both of these.
DAY 1
The day starts with a free brunch then moves on to keynote speaker Joe Lakey’s presentation on “Beyond Web 2.0: How It Will Affect Our Business” This will run from noon – 1pm and will cover such topics as the impact of video sharing sites and 2257 laws and changes on our industry. Next up from 1-3pm will be president of AVN Paul Fishbein’s presentation on the future of the adult industry. Paul turned $900 and an idea into one of the industries largest and most respected media outlets. On the panel for this presentation will be some other very well known and respected people like Steven Hirsch, the head of Vivid Video, Silver Cash owner Mike Price, Video Secrets President Gregory Clayman, GFC Media President Greg Dumas and Hot Movies President Richard Cohen. With a panel like that this should be something everyone will want to see. From 3-5 will be seminars on digital licensing, A newbie orientation and a class protecting yourself from obscenity charges. The day concludes with a happy hour get together from 5-7pm.
As the classes end the parties start. Day one of the expo sees round 1 of the porn poker tour, the invite only movie post dinner, MaleFlixx cock tail hour, Adult Spaces launch party, Cybersocket’s gay webmaster party (night 1), and the first night of the legendary Player’s Ball. The Player’s Ball’s first night’s musical performer will be Too Short and a surprise guest. Homegrown Video will also be hosting an invite only treasure hunt that starts tonight.
DAY 2
Day 2 starts bright and early at 11am with a free brunch. The first event of the day starts at 1pm and is a seminar on traffic patterns which will teach you different ways to get and use your traffic for maximum profit. Following the traffic patterns seminar is a work shop on legal basics with attorney Eric Bernstein and then a class on new techniques you can use to keep children out of your sites. The 3pm round of seminars kicks off with a seminar on search engine secrets. This is bound to be a popular one so get there early. It is followed by workshop that will teach you some good techniques to shooting content and then a class from JD Obenberger showing you the best ways to keep yourself 2257 compliant. After a long day of classes happy hour starts at 5pm.
It’s not Internext if you aren’t up 20 hours a day doing something and the second night of the show gives you plenty of choices. There is the Cybersocket gay webmaster party (night 2) starting at 9:30pm, the gay amateur porn party starting at 9:30pm, and day 2 of the porn poker tour. The night concludes with the second night of the Player’s Ball featuring Ice Cube and special guests.
DAY 3
After brunch the last day of the show starts with a presentation by Dr. Mary Klein who will discuss ’s war on sex. The afternoon workshops and seminars start off with a seminar on making money with domains. This is followed by a workshop on metric and analytical marketing and the last class of the event is on the war on porn. The event wraps up with a special live domain auction where some high profile adult domains including porn.com, penis.com, cock.com, vaginas.com, and facial.com will be auctioned off. This will be a silent auction and should prove to be very interesting as some of these domains are assuredly going to draw some pretty large bids.
This last night of the expo sees the finals of the porn poker tour and the third night of parties thrown by Cybersocket as well as the conclusion of Homegrown Video’s treasure hunt. There are sure to be many other last day blow outs so be sure to ask around.
THE FLOOR
The seminars are not the only business taking place at Internext. There is an entire show room floor of exhibits and booths put up by sponsors, hosting companies designers and content companies. If it involves adult there is probably a booth for it. At last count there were over 80 exhibitors scheduled and there will probably be more last minute add-ons so take some time and hit the show room floor.
MINGLE
Shows are a great place to meet people that you have either only heard of or spoken to via email or ICQ. It’s a nice place to put a face with a name. It’s also a nice place to do some business. Make sure to take your business cards and hand them out. Talk to everyone and listen to what people say. You can get some very valuable contacts and make some great deals at a show. It doesn’t even have to be a big deal to make the trip worth your while. I met someone I knew only from online at a show, ended up doing some small writing jobs for him and eventually he opened up a paysite and gave me an invite to promote it and 100% recurring for life as a thank you. I’m glad I went over and started chatting with him.
