Writing Catchy Sales Text
Writing an effective and compelling sales letter is no easy task, but if done correctly can generate staggering amounts of revenue! What’s even better is that with the inception of the internet, there are hundreds of websites that will let you post your sales letter for free. So you are no longer limited to your own client database for generating revenue. You can now access millions of people around the world who need your product or service.
The first line of your sales letter, also called a Tag Line, has only one purpose. Grab the reader’s attention and make them read the second line of your sales letter. While it might sound simple, this can be one of the most challenging aspects of writing a quality sales letter. You need to first define your reader is and how this product or service is directly related to their needs. Regardless of the industry, clients often believe that their problems are unique and therefore require unique solutions. When writing your sales letters be specific to your target market.
Once you have selected a target market for you sales letter and a tag line, you can begin to craft the body of your letter. The body of your sales letter is where the main message is contained and should be written in a compelling and descriptive manner. Remember to focus on one product or service per sales letter. Too many offerings will confuse the message and reduce its marketing effectiveness.
An absolute must for all sales letters is to create both a sense of need and urgency for the product. If your clients believe that they ‘need’ this product or will ‘miss out’ if they don’t purchase in time, you will begin to see increased conversion rates and sales.
To create a sense of need in your letter include statements like, “Aren’t you tired of throwing away $500 per month,” or even “I was personally losing $700 month just like you!” These are examples of how you can tailor the article and increase your credibility by drawing comparisons to your readers and demonstrating empathy for their business. The best way to create a sense of urgency for your readers is to ensure that your sales letter is “ONLY AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME,” or “FIRST 100 RESPONSES RECEIVE FREE UPGRADE.”
As well, never underestimate the value of photographs, differing sizes and color of text and including an order form with your letter. Photos can be used to showcase your product or to draw an emotional response from the reader. Whatever technique you use, record the results.
It is very important to understand that you may not have great success with each letter you send out, but you will over time see an increase your sales. Be certain to track the conversion rates of your sales letters and constantly change the message until you are realizing the conversion numbers you targeted. Good luck and good writing!
