01/13/2004 - ASACP Presented 1st Annual Outstanding Service Award at Internext
Los Angeles, CA - ASACP presented its 1st Annual Outstanding Service Award to Tim Henning. The presentation was made during the XBiz Awards at 2004 Internext in Las Vegas.ASACP is the organization that helps the industry make a difference in the battle against child pornography and with the support of its sponsors, advisory council, approved members and the industry, it has become more effective and visible in the last year.
ASACP's major function is to provide an online hotline where people can safely report suspect child pornography. ASACP receives over 4000 reports a month. The Site Reviewer looks at each one of these reports to verify if they are actual child pornography or not.
"As you can only imagine this is an extremely difficult task and takes a very special person to do it. ASACP has been very fortunate to have such a person working for it for the last six years and we wanted to honor him. Therefore, ASACP was pleased to present its 1st Annual Outstanding Service Award to Tim Henning in appreciation for his six years of service and dedication to the protection of children on the Internet. Tim has been the backbone of ASACP," said Joan Irvine, executive director, ASACP.

06/24/2003 - Ten Orange County Men Were Indicted In A Federal Child Pornography Case
These indictments came after a year-long investigation involving numerous organizations such as the FBI - Los Angeles, Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the U.S. attorney's office, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the California Department of Justice's Bureau of Investigation, Operation Hamlet (Danish Police), Save the Children and NCMEC (National Center of Missing and Exploited Children)."ASACP is pleased to see that the effort of so many dedicated people resulted in the capture of these alleged criminals. These arrests demonstrate that by working together we have an impact in the battle against child pornography. However, it is important to note that it takes time to get to this point. Many people who report suspect child pornography to ASACP expect someone to be arrested immediately. Now you can see that it can take a year or more", said Joan Irvine, Executive Director, ASACP.
According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, the FBI in Los Angeles received the tip from the NCMEC. Adult Sites Against Child Pornography (ASACP) also reports hundreds of confirmed child pornography sites a month to the FBI and NCMEC. In certain sensitive cases, ASACP works directly with the FBI.
"ASACP cannot discuss all the details of its work with the F.B.I. However, I can tell you that at times we contact site owners to obtain information on offending affiliates or facilitate site owners to work directly with the F.B.I. This enhances the F.B.I.'s ability to locate and apprehend the criminals who sell child pornography on the Internet. The F.B.I. in Los Angeles is impressed with the diligence and the support it receives from the adult site industry," stated Irvine.
Sometimes well-meaning people post details about suspect sites on public boards or ask ASACP to do so. Such postings can alert the alleged criminal that an investigation may be in progress; thus, potentially destroying months of hard work and perhaps any chance of apprehending these people. Everyone wants people who peddle child pornography in jail where they can no longer cause harm to children or to the reputation of the professional adult site industry.
Therefore, ASACP has a request of all Webmasters. Please do not discuss details on the Webmaster boards and continue to report suspect child pornography sites directly to ASACP at http://www.asacp.com/reportsite.html or the NCMEC at https://web.cybertip.org/cyberTipII.html.
ASACP is an organization helping the adult site industry to make a difference in the battle against child pornography. 06/21/2003 - ASACP Receives Over 4000 Reports
ASACP received over 4000 suspect child pornography reports in May and reported over 120 sites to the authorities. The F.B.I. has expressed appreciation on the comprehensive information ASACP provides on child pornography sites and the overwhelming cooperation of the industry.
"Due to the increasing number of reports and the time it takes to properly process these, ASACP is reviewing its procedures and will implement new software this summer. Therefore, it is even more important for everyone to report suspect child pornography using the form at http://www.asacp.org/reportsite.html," said Joan Irvine, Executive Director, ASACP.
ASACP only reviews "Websites." Please report only websites and include the exact URL of where the child pornography is present.
ASACP does not review:
. Bulletin Boards; the URL includes 'bbs'
. Newsgroups; the URL includes "alt.binaries'
. P2P; i.e. Kazaa and Morpeus
. Instant messages, message boards or conversations from chatrooms.
. Web communities, i.e. Yahoo, MSN, AOL and Lycos.
ASACP is an organization helping the adult site industry make a difference in the battle against child pornography, not spam or problems with excessive popups. Therefore, it cannot respond to non-child pornography issues.

05/08/2003 - How To Safely Surf For Adult Entertainment And Avoid Child Pornography
Los Angeles - (May 8, 2003) -- Adult Sites Against Child Pornography (ASACP- www.asacp.org/) is the organization helping the adult site industry make a difference in the battle against child pornography. When Alec Helmy, head of Helmy Enterprises, recognized the need for ASACP in 1996, his mission was to help the adult site industry combat child pornography.ASACP has received and reviewed over 70,000 reports of suspect child pornography. It reported over 14,500 valid child pornography sites to the FBI and U.S. Customs Bureau. ASACP received over 3000 reports of suspect child pornography in April alone compared to 1200 a year ago.
"I never thought the ASACP mission would need to expand to provide advice on how to safely surf the Internet to the consumers of adult entertainment. However, this has changed with recent news about arrests for viewing child pornography and the announcement that Pete Townshend was placed in the Sex Offenders Register for just doing research for his campaign against child pornography. Not surprisingly, many are now fearful of viewing any adult sites," according to Helmy.
Concerned people have written ASACP to ask:
* What happens if I view child pornography by mistake, will I be arrested?
* I have been receiving spam emails that talk about child pornography and give websites to go to. Until today, I have always visited the websites before reporting them. I finally read your FAQ page (http://www.asacp.org/faq.html) and found out that I could get into trouble by visiting these websites. No more! I will just report whatever emails I receive to you and you can take it from there.
* My wife and I enjoy adult entertainment and like the access that the Internet gives us. When I think of adult entertainment I think fun. But when I am concerned that we may view child porn by mistake, I get sickened and enraged. How can we avoid this horrific stuff?
"Millions of Americans surf the Internet for adult entertainment. It's their constitutional right to enjoy this, just as it is the adult sites' right to provide this content under freedom of speech rules. However, no one wants to end up in jail for a few minutes of fleeting pleasure in the privacy of their own home or office", says Joan Irvine, Executive Director of ASACP.
ASACP would like adults to enjoy their entertainment experience without the fear of viewing child pornography. Therefore, it put together these six viewing guidelines.
ASACP Viewing Guidelines:
1. Only view or join a professional adult site with a legal disclaimer stating it is compliant with 18 U.S.C. 2257 Statement or "All models are at least 18 years old at the time of this depiction."
2. When it comes to child pornography, it's always best to err on the side of caution. Do not view an adult site that contains pictures of nude children or in fact, any children or models that claim to be over 18, but look much younger.
3. Do not look at sites/spam that contain words that denote children *.
4. Look for the ASACP Approved Member logo on a site. This states that ASACP consistently monitors this site for child pornography. Check the Member Directory at www.asacp.org.
5. Report all suspect child pornography to organizations, such as ASACP (www.asacp.org/reportsite.html), U.S. Customs Service via the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (www.ncmec.org), the F.B.I., or your local authorities.
6. Do not search for child pornography to report or as part of a research project. This is illegal and you do not need to see the horrific pictures to know it is there. Once you see an image of a man penetrating a three-year-old baby, it never goes away.
ASACP hopes that these guidelines will add to your viewing pleasure. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email ASACP at comments@asacp.org. Over 3,000 adult sites that are taking a stand against child pornography proudly display the ASACP logo

11/10/2002 - ASACP & Free Speech Coalition Urges Adult Webmasters To Vote On November 5th
ASACP & Free Speech Coalition Urges Adult Webmasters To Vote On November 5thAdult Sites Against Child Pornography (ASACP) and Free Speech Coalition (FSC) support Americans’ freedom to vote and encourage adult webmasters to exercise this privilege on November 5th.
FSC is the trade association for all the Adult entertainment Industry; having acted in that capacity for over a dozen years. ASACP is the premier organization helping the adult site industry to make a difference in the battle against child pornography.
Bill Lyon, Executive Director of FSC, issued the following statement:
“Your way of life is in real danger! If the slim liberal majority in the Senate is lost in the November 5 election, conservative extremists will control both the White House and U.S. Congress. Your Constitutional right to read, view, and discuss anything you choose is hanging in the balance.
Conservatives, desperate to tighten their grip on America’s government, are pouring millions of dollars into campaigns across the country to run attack ads against liberal, progressive candidates who support free speech. They want to control the U.S. Senate so that they can control the appointment of conservative judges to our Federal Courts. These conservative judges would be likely to come down on the side of federal control of the information you can access in books, videos and on the
Internet. They could even exercise control over what you would be allowed to talk about.
You have the power to stop them on November 5, 2002! Only one force in America can shatter these conservative ideologues heavily funded plan to dominate America’s government and citizens ... that power is you, the voter. Only you can elect liberal candidates who will protect you from this planned intrusion on your Constitutional rights.
There are many important races that will determine which party controls the United States Senate. Your vote can make all the difference. It is more important than ever that you register and vote this year. Your First Amendment rights could be lost forever if Conservatives gain control.
There are just days left until the election. Your vote can help prevent the national balance of power from shifting to right-wing conservatives and their flawed vision of freedom and their announced agenda to taking away your First Amendment rights. On November 5th: Vote To Protect Your
Freedoms, Vote To Protect Your Rights, Vote Your Conscience To Keep America Free!”

09/04/2002 - 58% of Sites Reported by ASACP Shutdown by Authorities
58% of Sites Reported by ASACP Shutdown by AuthoritiesASACP (Adult Sites Against Child Pornography) is the premier organization helping the adult site industry to make a difference in the battle against child pornography. We are pleased to announce that due to the efforts of ASACP and it supporters, over 58% of the 10,600 reported sites have been
shut down.
Since 1999 ASACP:
Has received over 50,000 reports of child pornography.
Has reviewed the 25,800 of these sites that were unique.
Has reported over 10,600 sites to the FBI and U.S. Customs Bureau.
Has had over 58% of the reported sites shutdown by the authorities.
ASACP offers two unique advantages over alternative methods of reporting suspected child pornography:
ASACP, being closely involved with the adult site industry, can more knowledgeably cull through submitted reports and only pass on valid illegal sites to the authorities.
Adult site webmasters and the general public often feel more comfortable reporting sites to a self-regulating organization like ASACP than to governmental agencies.
